Octave: An RTA for the iPhone App Reviews

Good for voice analysis

This app lets you analyze slight variations in the pitch of your voice in real time, which is exactly what I was looking. I use this app for voice therapy when I teach people to speak with a slightly higher or lower pitch than they are used to and it provides a great visual with live feedback. Thanks so much!

Awesome

I used it Friday at show. With this app and stage mix it literally took two minutes rig monitors. Awesome apps.

AWESOME APP!!!

Saves me every show! Incredibly accurate! 10 stars!

Nice little rta

For the price this is a really cool unit. Been a touring sound guy for years and its nice to pull this out of your pocket on stage or out front for a quick reference .

Sweet!

I use this when I run FOH at my church... Very handy tool, and nowhere near as expensive as other gear. Does the job well.

Pro Audio Technician Barry Hogan

This App is a very well Writen

has potential but...

theres no way to calibrate the db levels! this app would be really nice if this was possible. I know not everyone has the resources to perform the calibration, but I do and this is crucial! I need a way to dial in a db offset. The app is good otherwise.

like, almost love

I really would appreciate a calibrate function as well... this would improve its accuracy through functionality, and thus, become even more desirable. I kinda assumed it would have this ability... It is crucial... Please? in-app purchase? Otherwise, hands down its a solid app. love the touch and slide function over the freqs... Thanks Alex, ill have to snag Fourier as well, keep up the good work.

Spectrum

Best ting since sliced bread

Yeah, this is what its suppose to be!

Been in audio biz for most of 20 yrs. Seen and used some of the best gear out there, even spent some money on them ($$$$). This is what an analyzer is suppose to be, point blank! Great job man, and cant wait to see what your upgrades bring! Ill bring the fifth star when you say "Done!" (smiles)

Lacks calibration ability

Very nice UI! The accuracy reads 20 point below calibrated DB level. As with the other Pro Engineers reviews, please add a calibration method. As is, it is only a relative meter. Thanks for what you have so far. Five stars pending the above improvement.

Great app

Great app. Use it with church contemporary band to help figure out where some of the instruments are higher/lower than needed. Well worth the money.

Nice, but could be improved

Nice app with very nice display. But it needs a calibration mode, or at least a relative measurement mode. Low frequency roll off of iPhone 5 internal mic is severe, but some other RTA apps have dealt with it. Hopefully, an update will address these items.

Just fine.

Solid app. Works great in a pinch. Couldnt expect much more from a phone audio app......if you do buy proper RTA mics and interfaces and quit complaining.

Octave

Octave is fast and seems accurate. I have not attempted using it with an external microphone; only the iPhones built in mic. Compared to other, similar apps, this one is by far the most functional and best value.

Teacher and musician

Great tool! I use it in private lessons with wind instruments to insure students are putting out an even sound across the range of their instrument. Great to use as a quasi sound man as well. Can quickly locate the freq of feedback.

Best RTA app

In a pinch, you pull this out of your pocket, ring out your mics, and your event is saved. Highly recommended for iPad...but works great on iPhone as well.

Terrific!

I use this with white noise to calibrate my audio system. Didnt get it perfect, but I need to use this with a omnidirectional calibrated RTA mic if I expect accurate results. Would say its already pretty accurate just using built in microphone.

Buy it.

Fast, accurate and cheap. How can you lose. This really helped me find peaky stuff on my last mixdown. My mix is smokin and Ill be using this app a lot.

High Pass Filter problem

I am a professional live audio engineer and I tried using this app on my iPad Mini to monitor my mix. In my genre of music I mix very heavy to the low end and work the subs a lot. This app looks great but it doesnt give an accurate read below 250hz. Near useless for my application if I cannot defeat the HPF built into the mic software.
