Octave: An RTA for the iPhone App Reviews

RTA

I have this on both my iPad and iPhone. Its usually the first of my tools I use. Great color scheme and very accurate. Would recommend in a heart beat.

Great app

Great app. Accurate. WOuld be nice if it could be calibrated especially on low ends. I am also curious about response on ends if I actually had a decent mic but still great app.

Very accurate

Awesome rta, works well as a great reference.

Good but needs refinement

I like the app and its layout and it even has a way to adjust the vertical scale resolution by pinching but once you expand it to a 1db per division scale, the response curve is out the top of the display. It either needs a way to scroll up instead of centering around 0 or it needs some form of attenuation adjustment to move the curve down where its visible so I can tune to a +/- 3 DB curve for room equalization

Mr

I like the ballistics and general screen manipulation via gesturing. I would like to see the ability to specify the dB/division and the range, # of divisions, of the vertical scale. There also seems to be something of a LF deficiency. Below ~100Hz there is little energy displayed even in the presence of ridiculous subwoofer levels. Perhaps this is some byproduct of the sampling rate that is not specified. Actually itd be nice to be able to select the sample rate/sample size. Perhaps there is some HPF filter in the iOS that needs to be disabled? Im confident it is not my mic or iPad as other frequency analysis programs indicate the LF appropriately. Other than that mentioned I like the app and look forward to improvements.

Pretty Good.

Definitely worth paying for, and I understand that in general the hardware substitute for this app is expensive, but in my opinion this app seems to follow the same idea, its to expensive, but other than that I really enjoy it, Great App.

Great app, but

First the hertz value is an octave off. Around 440 approximates a4, not a5. Then theres each bar, which is not precisely tuned to each note, which defeats the point of this app. Right now some of the as have 445, 223, when it should be 440 and 220. This would be worth 5 stars and actually become an actual musicians tool if that were fixed.

User Support 101

Ive used this app for quite some time with great success! As an FOH engineer, it tells me what I need to know better than RTAs far more expensive than this fantastic app. What seals the deal for me is the support I got directly from the developer. There was a small (and simple) issue I had and he was on top of it immediately! User error, but the dev still helped me through! 10 stars!!!

Was great, stopped working

iPhone 5, 7.0.3. App stopped working on my phone. Deleted and re-downloaded. No luck. Any suggestions??

Great app!

Great basic reference! If you need a close to perfect freq RTA, this is it!

Greatest

As accurate as your gonna get with a ipad app Just simply great!!!

Stopped Working

I have this on IPad and iPhone. It has stopped working on my iPhone. I have deleted and re-installed without luck. Thoughts or suggestions? Before, it was great.

Please Fix Screen Size

Hi, love this app. Can you please fix the screen size to fit the iPhone 5 and beyond? That would be real cool.

Not perfect but got the job done well.

Lets all be honest here, you cant expect a perfect RTA from an iPhone or ipad, but this app does surprisingly well. I used this to ring out sound system in a large room with a basic mixer geq and pa amp. It was accurate enough to show me what frequencies were ringing and I cut them out using the geq. It worked well!

Great app

Very useful app! I use it in the studio and in live settings. Thanks!

Great app, mic calibration would be nice

I use this for FOH purposes. Great app for cheap that saves me tons of time in tech. I recently bought a measurement mic for my iPad that came with a calibration file. Unfortunately I cannot load it into Octave. I see mic calibration is to be included in the next update- this would be huge for me. Id also love to see a program SPL meter. I have a different app for that but keeping everything on one screen would be nice. Anyways, for $5 you cant go wrong here. Great for live sound engineering.

Best cheap option available

I work as a FOH/Monitor engineer, A1 and systems engineer for corporate and rock and roll. This has saved me a few times. Best app for cheap.
